Thank you for your interest
We’re grateful you’re here, and we’d love to share a bit of our heart and vision as we think about what it means to lead God’s people in worship through song during our gatherings. As a team, we pursue three core values—integrity, excellence, and humility—and we believe these shape everything we do.
Integrity + Excellence + Humility
Integrity
When we talk about integrity, we’re talking about who we are both on and off the stage. Scripture calls us to live in a way that reflects God’s character—His love, His kindness, and His holiness. Our desire is that our lives look the same throughout the week as they do when we’re leading worship. We want to honor God even when no one else is watching.
We pursue this together by submitting ourselves to God’s Word and by living in community. Everyone who serves on stage is part of a weekly gospel community, because we want to truly know one another and be known. That means celebrating together when life is joyful, and encouraging one another with the promises of Scripture when life is hard. We want to create an environment of grace where we can grow—both in our relationships with each other and in our walk with Jesus.
Integrity also shapes the songs we choose. We believe God has entrusted us with the meaningful responsibility of leading His people in worship, and we take that seriously. We choose songs that are rich in gospel truth, full of solid theology, and centered on Jesus—not ourselves. Sometimes that means saying no to a song that doesn’t align with that standard. Our goal is always to point people to Christ with clarity and faithfulness.
Excellence
We also pursue excellence—not perfection, but a wholehearted desire to give God our best. Scripture teaches us to do everything as unto the Lord, and Jesus Himself modeled what it looks like to give fully and sacrificially. We want to steward the gifts He’s given us well by creating a worship environment that is focused, uplifting, and free from distractions.
This includes musicianship. We ask our team members to learn four to five songs over a two‑week period through personal practice, come prepared to play them with musical integrity, attend a midweek rehearsal, and join a final run‑through on Sunday morning. These rhythms help us serve our church with confidence and unity.
Excellence also shows up in our stage presence. If we’re excited about Jesus, our faces and posture should reflect that. It’s hard to lead others in worship if we’re not actively looking to the One we’re singing about.
These are just a few ways we pursue excellence together, always remembering that excellence must be paired with humility.
Humility
When you gather a group of creatives—especially musicians—there’s always potential for different opinions, styles, and preferences to collide. That’s why humility is essential. At Heartland, we’re intentional about the musical style and atmosphere we create during our gatherings, and we ask everyone on the team to come with a heart that’s ready to serve.
We all have personal tastes, and those differences are part of what makes a team beautiful. But at the end of the day, worship isn’t about what any of us prefer—it’s about what honors God and serves His people best. That means checking our egos at the door, loving one another well, and choosing what lifts up Jesus above everything else.
Sometimes humility looks like playing a song you wouldn’t normally choose, stretching yourself musically, or learning new sounds and techniques. Other times it means being patient and encouraging toward someone who’s still growing in their skills. We’re all on a journey, and we all need each other.
Ultimately, we serve because we know how deeply we need Jesus. He has called us to love and serve one another just as He has loved and served us. Our hope is to grow—not only as musicians, but as followers of Christ—so that through our lives and our worship, people can come to know and experience His love.

Let's the get process started
Wait to receive a response
Once we receive your application, we’ll follow up with you by email to let you know if you’re ready to move forward to a live audition. If we feel there are a few areas to grow in before taking that next step, we’ll share those with you clearly and kindly, and we’ll do our best to provide resources that can help you continue developing. And if we sense that this particular team may not be the best fit right now, we’ll communicate that with love and care—and we’ll gladly help you explore other places at Heartland where your gifts can shine and make a meaningful impact.
Live band audition
If you move on to the live audition portion, we’ll send you 4–5 songs to learn as closely to the practice recordings as you can. When you come in, you’ll play through each song in person with a full band so we can get a feel for how you fit into the team environment. Within two weeks of the audition, we’ll share one of three responses—GREEN LIGHT, YELLOW LIGHT, or RED LIGHT—each given with clarity, kindness, and a desire to help you grow in the right direction.
Green Light
A green light means that you are ready to be put on rotation for corporate gatherings.
Yellow Light
A yellow light means that we believe there is strong potential for you to be put on rotation
for corporate gatherings, but there are things that need to be addressed first. Those things
will be communicated to you and you will be given next steps.
Red Light
A red light means that something has come up that we believe gives reason not to put you on
rotation for corporate gatherings, in which case those things will be communicated to you.
Green Light
A green light means that you are ready to be put on rotation for corporate gatherings.
Yellow Light
A yellow light means that we believe there is strong potential for you to be put on rotation
